Thank you for your interest in being a part of The Dog Logs at Javeenbah Theatre.
The Dog Logs is scripted as a series of monologues telling stories both dramatic and comic of a variety of dogs. Our production will certainly require actors who can deliver monologues meaningfully, but will also include strong ensemble work to flesh out each story and create links and transitions between each story.
Whilst the characters are dogs, and there may be animal movement as ensemble, the
delivery of the monologues will focus on the story and emotional intent and be presented as human. Characters will be dressed in human costumes to suit their personality – not dog suits.
We hope to also include some puppetry. You will be trained in their use.
All actors will be required to work physically in the space, with each other and possible move small set pieces to create new locations. You may be required to play more than one character (depending on final casting) and you may be required to use an accent.
These will be OPEN auditions. All auditionees will present in front of each other.
Please wear loose comfortable clothing or active wear to the audition. You may be required to frolic.
Please consult the list of dogs to help inform your choice of audition pieces. Some dogs MUST be male and some MUST be female, others could be presented by either gender. Some also suggest age range – these are a guide only. Some dogs are young and some old. This can be communicated through acting skill dependent on casting.
During the audition you will be invited to present one (or more) of the selected audition speeches. These should not be memorised, but you should be familiar enough with your choice(s) to include movements as you feel appropriate.
There will also be time during the audition to work in groups to create and shape some ensemble work. This will be your chance to demonstrate some creative choices. You will be given planning and practise time and then the scene will be presented.
