Javeenbah Theatre Brings Thought Provoking Musical to the Gold Coast Stage!

Javeenbah Theatre is proud to be bringing next to normal to its small and intimate stage!

Dad’s an architect; Mom rushes to pack lunches and pour cereal; their daughter and son are bright, wise-cracking teens, appearing to be a typical American family. And yet their lives are anything but normal because the mother has been battling manic depression for 16 years.

This thought provoking musical explores grief, depression, drug addiction, suburban life & ethics in modern psychiatry. This isn’t your typical happy-go-lucky musical.

Director Nathan French has been seen all around the Gold Coast in recent years and has said ‘I’m proud to be able to share this important story of mental health and grief with audiences across the Coast as it is an often untold and unheard of story’

He goes on ‘working with our cast of locals has been an extraordinary experience, the level of talent these volunteers have is just astronomical!’

French has been lucky enough to work with his partner Taylor Holmes on this project who has also enjoyed brining this story to life. “Being musical director of next to normal has been a dream come true. Being apart of this important retelling has taught me so much about how vital it is to have discussions with our loved ones about our mental health and how we can help those around us who are struggling, regain their daily life,”

next to normal explores extremally mature themes and Javeenbah Theatre recommends that it is appropriate for peopled aged 16 and above. next to normal is a poignant take on modern society & how people struggle with grief in different ways, making it a perfect thought provoking night out!

next to normal runs for 9 performances from Friday 16 September to Saturday 2 October 2022.
