Javeenbah Theatre once again proves their commitment to thought provoking theatre & world premieres in their 2023 season!

Javeenbah Theatre has proved that COVID is no match for this steadfast & volunteer based community Theatre. After 2 tumultuous years of postponements & cancellations, this little theatre in the heart of Nerang is determined to produce a full six shows in 2023.

Opening their 2023 Season is ‘The Brothers Grimm Spectacularthon.’ Directed by Taylor Holmes (hot on the heels of next to normal where Holmes was Music Director!), The Brothers Grimm fairy tales get turned on their heads in this fast-paced, rollicking ride. Two narrators and a troupe of actors attempt to combine all 209 stories ranging from classics like Snow White, Cinderella, and Hansel & Gretel to more bizarre and obscure stories like The Devil’s Grandmother and The Girl Without Hands. A wild, free-form comedy with lots of audience input and madcap fun.Third time lucky for this postponed production of ‘Cinderella!’

Directed by Javeenbah Life Member Jocelyn Moore-Carter, This Cinderella isn’t about princes and princesses. It’s about a single woman in her early 40s trying to go on a date, and a single guy who has an unreasonable fear of not being heard over loud music in bars. There may not be any ugly sisters, but there’s the occasional mysterious animal. There’s midnight. There’s a show. There’s dancing. And there’s beautiful transformation.Coming in at number three is ‘Apologia.’

Directed by Steven Days, Kristin Miller is an eminent and successful art historian. As a young mother, she followed her politics and vocation – storming Parisian barricades and moving to Florence. Her birthday should be a time for celebration but when her two sons deliver their versions of the past, everyone must confront the cost of Kristin’s commitment to her passions. We welcome back for another year our ‘One Act Wonders!’ A prime collection of one act plays from local writers and directors. Javeenbah Theatre is proud to once again stage new, local work in these world premieres!

Number five for the year is some classic Men in tights in ‘Sherwood! The Adventures of Robin Hood’ Directed by Nathan FrenchRobin is the life of the party. But an encounter with inhumane greed keeps him up at night, and not in the good time way he’s used to. The classic tale of courage takes a lighthearted romp as we swashbuckle our way through Sherwood Forest.

Rounding out Javeenbah’s 2023 season is the yearly musical, ‘Falsettos!’ Brought to you by Director Jake Goodall & the directorial team behind 2022’s ‘Boys in the Band.’ Falsettos is a story of a large, eccentric, and dysfunctional — but loving — Jewish family in New York at the end of the 1970s. Initially, Marvin seems blessed with the perfect family. He has a caring wife, Trina and a young son, Jason. Nevertheless, the family is soon broken apart, when the homosexual Marvin leaves Trina for a man called Whizzer. With Musical Direction by Rachel Love & Choreography by Charlotte Schmidt this is a show not to miss!
